40 Years in Radiology Taught Me This

You can teach skills.

You can train technique.

But you cannot teach heart.

Healthcare runs on people who care deeply — even when they’re exhausted, overlooked, or carrying more than anyone realizes.

To every student, tech, and instructor: Your compassion is your superpower.

  1. Watching the nurses’ strike unfold has been deeply moving. It feels like a collective exhale—a moment where so many who have carried too much for too long are finally saying, “enough.” I keep thinking about how burnout isn’t just about individuals reaching their limits; it’s about systems that have ignored those limits for years.
Nurses, techs, therapists, and so many others shoulder the emotional and physical weight of care every single day. They deserve more than resilience—they deserve balance, rest, and real support.
Burnout doesn’t always look like a crisis; sometimes it looks like quiet exhaustion, the slow dimming of what once felt purposeful. I believe the change we need begins with listening—to ourselves, to each other, and to those brave enough to speak up for something better.
